Lieutenant-Colonel John Brady Nash, doctor and parliamentarian, was a member of the NSW Legislative Council from 1900-1925. He served in the Army Medical Corps from 1914 to 1916, arriving in Alexandria 14 Jan. 1915 on medical troopship S.S. Kyarra and returning to Australia 30 Dec. 1915

Taken by official war photographer Frank Hurley, this image and its title are equally captivating  because it's such an ordinary photo of a young man looking after his animals in such  extraordinary circumstances. I can just imagine him saying something like 'Must be almost time to feed the donks' - an unremarkable job if he was at home, perhaps he was a farmer. Something else again at War in the Middle East.
