Lieutenant Colonel Reginald John Albert Travers served with the 4th, 17th and 26th Battalions in 1916 and at the 4th Army Musketry School, Belgium, 1918. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, 21 Sept. 1916 and mentioned in dispatches, 1917. The daughter of William Holmes, Dorothy Mabel, married Reginald Travers on 13 Aug. 1914, reported in the Sydney morning herald 14 Aug. 1914

Taken by official war photographer Frank Hurley, this image and its title are equally captivating  because it's such an ordinary photo of a young man looking after his animals in such  extraordinary circumstances. I can just imagine him saying something like 'Must be almost time to feed the donks' - an unremarkable job if he was at home, perhaps he was a farmer. Something else again at War in the Middle East.
