Leslie Dunlop, a medical practitioner of Ipswich, Queensland was 27 years old when he enlisted, 27 Aug. 1914. He embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board Transport A14 Euripides, 20 Oct. 1914 and served at Gallipoli where he was a captain in the 1st Field Ambulance, 1st Australian Division, ANZAC. He was wounded in action, 9 Aug. 1915 and mentioned in despatches, 27 Apr. 1916. He returned to Australia on the Kanowna, 10 Mar. 1916

Keeping the secrets of battles fought, won and lost, makes for very clinical correspondence from ‘over there’. Reading between the lines about the realities of life in the armed forces must have been very difficult for the recipients of such scant morsels of information. It isn’t exactly a wordy message but I am sure it would have been happily received back home with the first line kept intact. See postcard.
