Leo Walsh, grazier, of Moomin, Rowena, New South Wales, embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT RMS Osterley, 15 Jan. 1916 at the age of 24. He served with 1st Field Artillery Brigade, 14th Reinforcements in Egypt, France and Belgium. He was wounded in action 6 Sept. 1917 and returned to Australia 10 Jan. 1918 on HT Corinthic. He was discharged 9 Apr. 1918 and returned to farming at Rowena, NSW until 1935, then to Queensland

Keeping the secrets of battles fought, won and lost, makes for very clinical correspondence from ‘over there’. Reading between the lines about the realities of life in the armed forces must have been very difficult for the recipients of such scant morsels of information. It isn’t exactly a wordy message but I am sure it would have been happily received back home with the first line kept intact. See postcard.
