Private George. T. C. McClintock was in the Australian Army Medical Corps, attached to the 13th Battalion, 4th Division, later transferring to the 17th Battalion, 12 Nov. 1917. He embarkd on board Transport A38 Ulysses. He served in Gallipoli in 1915, Malta in 1916, France in June 1916 and Belgium in Nov. 1917. In Feb. 1918 he transferred to the infantry.was a driver in the Australian Army Service Corps

Taken by official war photographer Frank Hurley, this image and its title are equally captivating  because it's such an ordinary photo of a young man looking after his animals in such  extraordinary circumstances. I can just imagine him saying something like 'Must be almost time to feed the donks' - an unremarkable job if he was at home, perhaps he was a farmer. Something else again at War in the Middle East.
