Edy Little, a barrister of Vaucluse, New South Wales was 31 when he enlisted, 27 Apr. 1918. He embarked from Sydney on board SS Feldmarschall, 19 June 1918 and served with the 35th Battalion in England and France, Aug. 1918-May 1919. He returned to Australia on the Orontes, 19 June 1920

Taken by official war photographer Frank Hurley, this image and its title are equally captivating  because it's such an ordinary photo of a young man looking after his animals in such  extraordinary circumstances. I can just imagine him saying something like 'Must be almost time to feed the donks' - an unremarkable job if he was at home, perhaps he was a farmer. Something else again at War in the Middle East.
